Description
Alder Lake introduced the performance/efficiency core split to the desktop, and the 12700K is the part from that generation still worth stocking. It shares the socket, chipset range and cooler mounting of the 13th and 14th generation parts, so it sits in the same builds at a lower cost.

Where it fits
Cost-led builds on the LGA1700 platform, and refresh cycles where an existing DDR4 kit has to carry over. Note the lower DDR5 rating (4800 against 5600 on Raptor Lake) — faster kits will run, but at the board vendor's discretion rather than to Intel spec.
